Resolved Question

All Copy/Pasting is stripped of formatting, formulas, etc

Apr 15, 2012 4:00AM PDT

This is odd, I can copy and paste but all the pasting is wiped clean of any formatting, underlying formulas (in Excel), hyperlinks, etc. This happens within all programs (Word, Excel, gmail) and when copy/pasting between programs (Word to gmail).

It must be a global, XP setting. I tried rolling back the computer one week but the problem exists (not sure when it started).
Any ideas??
Thanks

...and now stranger

First, regarding special paste (Excel) - There are only two options (which I didn't note) vs the normal 20? options.
Next, I posted this morning after I remembered I had not solved this sinking problem, when I could copy/paste a formula in Google Spreadsheed Docs.
NOW!!! Something has changed and I don't know what. I can now copy with Special paste features of Excel, from Word to gmail with all the formatting, etc. The problem is gone after 2 weeks. Why?
Anyhow, for now, I'm good but would love to know what I did to cause this and how it was fixed.
Thanks everyone!

Paste text only ....all programs, windows, browsers, etc
Apr 16, 2012 2:25AM PDT

This is odd. At some point yesterday I was able to copy/paste without issue. This morning, it's back.

Again, its across all platforms....I can only copy text within or across any program, window, browser, etc. Even Excel, the Special Paste only shows two options Unicode Text and Text. However, I can still copy by dragging a formula to an adjacent cell.

(opps, sorry didn't mean to mark my comment above as the best answer...it was a comment)

Just so you know about SECURITY SUITES.
Apr 16, 2012 2:53AM PDT

Some security suites do this to the clipboard in the name of privacy protection. Exploiting the clipboard made the news over the years so Security Suites can affect this.

Skype click to call seems to have been the problem. In installed the latest update and problem is solved without even a reboot. Nice.

That's a great find

and one we probably would never have thought of. Good work.

What we should have asked was, "any changes since this last worked", and perhaps that would have helped, but who would have thought that a Skype update was the cause?

Well done.

Answer
There is a special paste
Apr 15, 2012 4:06AM PDT

option in Excel and perhaps other Office apps for pasting data and formatting. If I remember rightly, (I don't have Office on this machine I am on at the moment), you have to right click where you want to paste then select one of the options other than just Paste.

Sorry I can't be more help, but I have forgotten what the options are. See what options you have when you right click.

Ahh, Paste Special
Apr 15, 2012 4:36AM PDT

I was so close!

Not sure about the 'paste from Word to GMail' though. I hadn't seen that in the original post when I replied. I doubt any "Paste Special" option is available for that.

It's still special.

I find such pastes to use IE. Isn't that special?
