If that's the case, then you need to start trouble-shooting your machine. Temporarily disable ALL running programs when using the games...Try a different video card with more RAM...Since heat damage over time can cause issues, it may be time to try a new motherboard...(You mentioned that it was an old machine but had updated memory, etc.)

This happened out of the blue really, everything working fine one day, screwed up the next.
The computer was fairly dusty and was getting a little hot, but nothing horrible.
I reseated my graphics card ( Nvidia GeForce) and it seemed to fix the problem for a bit. The graphics didnt flicker at all, and the game lasted much longer before freezing.
Everything that doesn't require 3d Graphics works fine.
What could be the problem?
