Question

Alienware R3 lag problems

Jun 2, 2019 4:40PM PDT

Hi, I'm having problems in certain games where it'll start out fine but then start lagging severely in 4 second intervals, a very regular stutter. It's only in some games, like Dark Souls 3 which makes it impossible to play, but not in other games like GTA 5 which requires high performance but still works fine. I've looked up solutions and seen a lot of complaints about Alienware 15 R3 (my PC) lag, but no solution that works. It could also have to do with Windows 10, I just don't know. Hit me with any thoughts or solutions, and let me know if you need more information. Thanks!

If you are unlucky like that.

I don't have any new magic if as you write no one has a fix.

I like to check the Speccy and Userbenchmark reports to see if there's more to try but is this a new issue or is the machine new? Once in a while I'll get a two year old laptop that the owner didn't know about canned air use.

Or they don't know to tinker with game settings (lower them) till it works. Some games may work out of the box (or install) while others require a lot of adjustments.

Dark Souls 3 has FAR TOO MANY COMPLAINTS. https://steamcommunity.com/app/374320/discussions/0/133256758573312716/?ctp=1 does note that during invasions/teamplay so it may be just too heavy a game for some machines.

PS. There are a lot of different Alienware 15 models.

The CPU, GPU, HDD, SSD, RAM and what else matters here. If you are gaming on an iffy network connection then that can be in play as well.

What worries me is is that you already did your research. But I don't see a few things such as what you tried or the PC details. Make, and partial model but as there are so many variants I can't write that all R3's should be fine.
