Alienware M14x R2 Vs. MSI GT60 20C-024US

by Brandon2015 / July 9, 2013 2:02 PM PDT

I'm looking into a laptop to both replace my current desktop and serve as a portable laptop. This would be used at home for a year or so while occasionally bringing it to Lan parties. However It would also serve as my laptop in college. Anyway, Here are the two models that I'm mainly interested in.

The first is the MSI GT60 20C-024US

I like this laptop because of sheer power. I'm certain it can handle anything I'll throw at it and it has very positive reviews. The problem is the Screen size (15.6", I wouldn't mind a smaller one for more portability) and the hefty weight of 7.7 LBS

Next is the Alienware M14X R2

I like this laptop because, well, It's Alienware. It looks awesome and It has a 14" screen, and also is only around 6.1 LBS. On top of that, it still has great processing power albeit not as much as the GT60. The only thing I really dislike is the price. The model I;m looking at is more than the GT60 but doesn't have as good of hardware.

If anyone can offer insight into this, It would be Much appreciated!

And about gaming on laptops.
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / July 9, 2013 2:15 PM PDT

Not much has changed over the years. These have improved but the desktop still wins at gaming and the laptop repair rates scare folk. If you can't live with the idea of replacing this in 2 years then go cheap so you won't feel burned.

MSI has a better graphics card and the SSD will be faster then the HS of the Alienware. I my prefer a bigger screen with Hi def resolution.
