Oddly it is showing under "Other Devices" and not as a usb device. Agin the thing is working so i dont know what the problem is...if there is one..other than the way W98se is seeing the device!
The device works perfectly. Problem is W98 as per Device Manager insists that it needs drivers. Obviously it installed correctly as it scans perfectly. The manufacturer ,Alestron, has not responded yet to my query.
I am content to let it go but am curious as to what the problem might be but suspect that it is that the drivers installed into the Windows \System and Windows\Twain32 folders as opposed to where W98 expected to find them. However if i tell W98 to look in these folders for the drivers it tells me they cant be found!
If anyone has had a similar experience or an explanation for this behaviour would like to hear about it!
Thanks
