Alert pop-ups with Netscape 8.0 (Hosts file issue?)

Sep 23, 2005 6:21AM PDT

I just downloaded netscape 8.0 after using 7.2. I've been continually getting an alert message as I load various sites, including CNET (''Alert: That domain name could not be found. Please check the name and try again''). Based on the post referenced below, the problem appears to be a function of my Hosts file.

Therefore, my questions are as follows:

1. Can I somehow disable the Alerts pop-ups without disabling the Hosts file from blocking the adservers?

2. If not, should I comment out some entries in the Hosts file for certain sights where I might trust the advertisers they use (e.g., CNET and Yahoo). If so, how do I know which lines to comment out?

3. Might eDexter work to fix the problem? (http://accs-net.com/hosts/faq.html#9)

4. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Kyle
