AirPort install problem

Aug 2, 2005 11:38PM PDT

I was upgrading an older PowerMac G4 tower (450mHz - APA graphics) and my first order of business was to install an AirPort card. AirPort Extreme does not work with this one, so I bought the older version from a second party distributor and the card came with no install instructions. Fortunately I downloaded a pdf from the Apple Support site. I was following the nine step install proceedure and was stopped at step six. I slid the AirPort card through the PCI card guide, but the card will only slide through so far. The leading edge of the card (pin connections) won't insert any farther than just making contact with the front end of the card slot on the main logic board. I've finessed, wiggled, checked for obstructions in the card slot, but short of applying brute pressure, the card won't insert far enough to engage the pin connections.

I've put enough pressure on the card that the card slot is lifting upwards and threatening to break loose from the logic board. I don't want to risk damage so I dare not apply any more pressure than that.

Anybody out there with ideas as to what I may be doing wrong... or some other physical obstruction that I haven't noticed? My only other option is the Apple Store Genius Bar. It's generally a one to two hour wait and parking at that mall is a *****. Lugging a G4 tower for nearly a mile isn't my idea of a fun San Diego summer's day.

Appreciate any help I can get.
