Airport hunting for networks

Mar 20, 2011 1:57AM PDT

Having had speed problems which my ISP (Plusnet) doesn't seem able to resolve I've been paying close attention to wifi activity and have noticed that while monitoring Airport activity Airport searches about every 10-15 seconds for networks. I have never been aware of this happening with previous set-ups/ISPs. Is it normal or should I also raise this as a problem with Plusnet?

As long as you have connectivity during

these periods of searching, there is probably nothing to worry about.

It is not unusual for Airport to scan for new networks, even when connected to one.

If you are losing connectivity during the searches, then there is a possibility that your wireless base station is malfunctioning
