AirPort Extreme update

Sep 22, 2006 9:39AM PDT

Help please! I have recently downloaded AirPort security update 2006-001 for Mac OSX. I have a powerbook G4, not an intel mac. Although apple's update said it was for all macs, I have since learned that it is not for the build version of my computer. I am using my computer on a hotel wireless network. Since installing the update I cannot get anything from the web even though the computer says I am connected to their network and shows a full strength signal. Being relatively new to mac, can i remove the update and if so how do I do it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only updates that appear in the Software Update window are those that are required by your machine. The version for the Intel mac did NOT get downloaded to your machine and likewise, the version for the G4 did not get downloaded to any Intel Mac.
So, unless there has been a minor catastrophe, the update you got is the one that is for your machine.
Where did you learn that it was not for your build version?

You might want to take a look at your airport settings to see if anything got reverted to a default position and that you still have access to the hotel network. if you cannot find the problem, I'm not sure there is a way to remove the security update. This was not a software update as such.
Try using an ethernet cable into the router in your room and see if it works that way

security update

Thanks for the response! It appears that I was mistaken. I think I downloaded security update 2006-005 which is for my build number. However I'm still having the same problem. As far as I can tell the settings are correct. Interestingly, while playing with it, things suddenly seemed to start working correctly for a short period of time with one exception. Prior to installing the update, when I went to connect to the web I would be redirected to a log-in site for the hotel to give a passcode. That did not happen this last time, it took me direct to my home page. Alas, it was only for a short period of time then the message "you are not connected to the internet" even though the computer said I was and the signal was full strength. The hotel room does not have an ethernet jack, only wireless. I have resorted to using dial-up. As far as the settings, the network is listed by name and it appears that it is set up to find the needed info automatically

This from the Apple site.

Installation note

The Software Update utility will present the update that applies to your system configuration. Only one is needed, either AirPort Update 2006-001 or Security Update 2006-005.

After much trial and error and quite a bit of hair pulling, it appears that coincidentally my hotel had problems with their wireless system right after i downloaded the security update. Many thanks for your asstitance and patience with this newbie.
