Airport Express and D-Link 524

Aug 17, 2005 1:11PM PDT

This is my problem better explained. I have a D-Link 524 wireless router and I cannot get a connection established with my PowerBook g4 (1.67 GHz/superdrive). I've never owned an Apple before so am not sure how to fix this problem. I tried having my powerbook find the IP addresses and stuff like that automatically, but it just isn't working. I also tried to input all the correct addresses manually, and my powerbook still couldn't establish a connection. I even tried connecting the laptop directly to the router with an ethernet cable, but that didn't work either. Can anyone help? What in the world am I doing wrong?

Can we stick

with one scenario?
Your previous post said that you were using an ethernet cable to connect. Now it's wireless.
What exactly happens when you run the Wireless Setup Assistant?
Is the Airport card installed?
Is Airport turned on?
If yes, is there any movement in the Signal Strength meter in the menu bar?
This Macintosh, it is not an Apple, can connect easily to the D-Link Wireless router.
Go back to the wired ethernet connection and make that work first. Then you can do the other stuff. Trying to make it do two things at once is clouding the issue.

Mac, Sorry

I tried the ethernet cable first, and it didn't work, so I went for the wireless. The airport card is installed and on and the signal strength is steady at the strongest level.

Ok, While we are here.
When you ran the Airport Setup Assistant, did you have to enter any form of password to access the D-Link? Is the wireless network password protected?
Using your PC, go to this Apple site http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106250 which contains information on how to connect a Mac with Airport Extreme to a third party wireless device (Yours)

Let me know how you got on
