May 14, 2006 3:17AM PDT

I had an airport card in my MD G4.When the G4 broke down, I found a "same" G4 MD.But the card has a male connector and the "new" has a male receptor????? the suport in the new G4 is longer then in my old G4. Does any one knows how to solve? is there an adapter of some sort?

thanks for any sugestion.

Airport Card

How strange.
All the Airport cards, 11b, had female connectors on them. The receptacle had the male pins.
As far as I am aware, there is no adapter available as the problem should not exist.
If you still have the OLD G4, I would look inside the Airport card holder and see if you have left behind a chunk of the Airport Card. This "might" explain why your Airport card has pins on it and why the new slot support seems to be longer than the old one. The Airport card "could" be shorter because there is a chunk missing.

Check the pictures at http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/11g_11b_cards/airportcard.php where you will see an 11b airport card and, more importantly, an adapter for the iMac. Note the male pins on the adapter.

Go back and check that you have not left something behind

Airport Card
Jun 10, 2006 3:01AM PDT

It's an airport extreme A1027, flat metal casing and the printboard sticks out and functions as a male connector like on RAM . fits right into my old motherboard receptor. On the "new"G4 the connector in the motherboard is further away on the motherboard as to needing a longer airport card.
But I think the new G4 accepts only "airport" an not "airport extreme"
I followed your link an my card is completly different and smaller, hence the problem.
I apologise for the confusion, need to specify better.

thanks

you are correct. The G4 only takes the early type of Airport card, not the Extreme.
One wonders what you did with the one that was in the Dead G4?

Very odd

because the extreme only fits that motherboard and I really used it , honest.
May i send you a picture to your email of the motherboard?
