AIM Messenger, Not Working on Home Network

by jbillouin / November 13, 2003 4:32 AM PST

Hi, i used to use AIM AOL Messenger and i would like to start using it again, although since then i have put a the modem on the Workstation Computer and i access the internet on a wireless home network on my Laptop. MSN Messenger works perfectly, although i can't get Aim to work. I simply get a message saying "The Service Cannot Be reached" when trying to log on. i persume its because of my network. In the AIM help it says make sure your network isnt firewalled (And it isnt, i've checked) and if not ensure i insert the proxy settings to the settings - but i'm deffintly not on a proxy!

Thanks for help in advance.
James

Just for the record aswell, my Mozilla browser doesnt work, neither does Netscape. I also tryed other messengers such as trillian messenger an lycos messenger, these dont work either (they use to becfore i sorted the network out!)

Proxy?
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / July 3, 2004 1:17 AM PDT

99% of home network owners do not use a proxy setting.
So that's the right idea.

You neglected to tell what OS, much about your network setup so start with filling some blanks.
