drivesavers.com and ontrack.com deal with that a lot. They usually put in a new circuit board or put the platters into another drive.
No, this drive is not coming back.
Sorry to read you learned the "don't drop the hard drive" lesson first hand.

Dear all users and moderators of the CNET forum,
I have a 2.5 inch hard drive spinning at 5400rpm. Recently, I accidentally dropped it, while it was transferring some files. So, the hard drive blacked out.
I unplugged it ,and re-plug it into the USB 2.0 port. The hard disk spinned, but there is a 'click clock, click clock" sound emitted, but my Windows XP cannot recognise it. This sound continued and the hard drive does not get recognised by my Windows XP. Oh ya. The hard drive is an external box, connected by USB 2.0, and inside it, the hard rive is connected using PATA. The hard drive is very important to me, as it contains important information. Is there any possible methods to recover the contents in the hard drive? (I personally think that chances are slim, as it cannot be detected by Windows.)But, I hope the people out there can help out in this case. Any help is greatly appreciated. =))
Love,
a heartbroken person.
