Ahhh! Do I have a "lemon" iBook?

Sep 24, 2006 4:07AM PDT

I'm really getting angry over my iBook. It's a 14'' mid 2005. I've had a ton of problems. I got a new hd, motherboard, logicboard, keyboard, and OSX. The bill totaled over $2,100 after everything was fixed, but I was under warranty so everything was free. Now, I seem to have an audio glitch where the two speakers are never at the same volume, not matter how many times I adjust the MIDI. And just today, I was opening the screen, (carefully) and the bezel came almost right off! I can see a clear gap in between the frame surrrond on the bottom and the LCD/electronic guts. If I take the screen in my hand, and carefully move it away from me, the gap gets bigger. It is firmly attached on the corner, but falling off where the hinge meets the frame and the frame meets the actual LCD. My 1yr warantee ran out about two weeks ago. Do I bring it to the Apple Store and complain that I have a "lemon". The build quality on mine is horrible compared to my friends' iBooks.
I have looked online and I think the part I need replacing is $30.
What do I do?
Thanks!

Why not extend the warranty?

A brutal lesson is that for notebooks we should keep the warranty until we are ready to chance it dying and us paying for it.

Can I put applecare on my ibook now? Or is it too late?

I would.

Being just 2 weeks past warranty it shouldn't be a big deal.

MORE PROBLEMS
Sep 28, 2006 7:39AM PDT

Ughhh!
So I had iTunes 7 running (not the just updated one), and it switched to the next song, but it decided to play both songs at the same time. I quit iTunes to fix it. Now, randomly a speaker stops working, and it will randomly turn back on a bit later. It still has the problem where the speakers are never at the same volume, and I need to constantly adjust that.
I'm bringing it in to Apple and demanding a repacement.
