Resolved Question

after years windows xp no longer genuine

Aug 10, 2013 5:22AM PDT

I have an asus netbook and have had it for years (eee). It came with xp pro on it. The xp sticker, on the back, is no longer legible. Now, suddenly, it is no longer genuine and they want me to buy another. I have also started a scan on my system and, so far, I have one bad file.

What should I do Now?

Thank you.........

This one is pretty well discussed.

My old XP Asus never used the numbers on the sticker as the restore media is pre-activated for my laptop. So the sticker is not used to activate Windows.

I don't want you to feel shortchanged but the failure is well discussed and the most common causes are malware and registry cleaners. Restoring the factory OS is the common cure for this one.

I tried to restore to a previous date and it would not allow that to happen. It did do a sweep and did find a pup which I removed. I have read many of the posts on this subject. The only solution seems to be to do a clean install. I guess I will do that (I was trying to avoid that)

About restore.

Since Norton, Kapersky and other suites block the restore you find yourself looking at security suites and how to enable restore for this test. Keep in mind there are many discussions but here I can't see what's different. And about system restore the details needed to write "Oh, that Norton." isn't here either.
