Question

After years of changing languages, only types in English

Aug 11, 2013 3:49AM PDT

For years I have used my computer bilingually, in Hebrew and English. I change languages through the language bar, or with the alt+shift shortcut. Now for the last several months it will only type in English, even when the chosen language is Hebrew.

Answer
All I can do is nod.

If you had tackled that the moment it happened with System Restore then it may have been easy to deal with. But that option is gone and it's best to think over how this was enabled back then and repeat the procedure.

BTW, both languages are in my regional language list, and both appear in the language bar

All well and good

But as you suspect the odd, repeating, why is this? solution seems to use system restore or repeating what we did long ago. I see you don't like that answer so my question to you is why are you using a system so busted that we find ourselves on forums pleading for help?

Is it time for a change?

I "understood" from your first answer that system restore would not help, and that I need to remember what I did wrong (or more likely, what my teen son did wrong), which I don't. If there is a chance that system restore will help, I will try it.
BTW, when I write I have used for years bilingual, it is not years on this computer. This computer is about 3 years old.

I did write that and wrote why. It's a shame it's been broke this long since SR is the first and usually easy fix for such things.

I'll repeat what I'd do next. I'd find my notes on what I installed to get this working then re-install this. There are many other causes for this but the list is so long that I can't type it in here. I need clues such as error messages to reduce it down to what it could be.

Keep in mind that Skype, any app can break this feature. It's your PC so your memory of what was added around the time of the failure is key to fixing it without reloading the OS.

Some folk think that only a small clue is needed or "just the symptom." If it was that simple we'd be done by now.

tried system restore, no error messages

Thanks Bob for your replys. I tried system restore (it didn't go). I am not getting any error messages. I will look back at what I added at the approx time that this happened, and try from there.....
