General discussion

after logging off windows XP you can't log back on

So I am an AV tech an Babson college and I recently came accross a problem that my IT department can't solve (or don't want to). One of our office computers running Windows XP does not let anyone log on to a computer where someone had just logged off. After someone loggs off the computer the only way to log back on is to log on to the guest account first then log off and sometimes you can log onto another user. I have found nothing about this in my google search so I turned here...

should do what they are supposed to do here, and that's either a clean install of XP + applications or a restore of the initial image of the machine. I don't think you can solve this yourself, and certainly it's not your task.

All you can do is change the XP settings to allow user switching in stead of only user logoff. But it could very well be that you're not allowed to do that by some policy they implemented.
