After installing 'hotfix' on XP SP2 - can't use wi-fi

In trying to use Windows Messenger for the first time, I said yes to installing hotfix on my newly installed Windows XP SV2. Immediately after, my wi-fi connection (on a WEP-encrypted network at my local library) would not function. Is there a way to fix this? I can't find 'hotfix' on the laptop to simply remove it.
