Error code 22 on Windows ME is ...

How do I tell you this? Microsoft didn't think having an error code 22 was any problem at all and left this treasure for Windows ME owners to ask about over and over. Here's your documentation that Microsoft did this by design:

Error code 22 on Windows ME is much like a pet rock.

You know the one that says "turn me over."

It's a non-issue and sad that Microsoft left this cosmetic bug in place. Many have paid money to have it fixed. And since it's a zero-effect error (strictly cosmetic), then fixing it is again... cosmetic.

Your choice what to do with Code 22. I try to educate about it. Some want it fixed.

Now that we have the Code 22 issue under control, we can move forward to the other issues.

1. Shutdown problems.

Read and try the Shutdown Article at http://www.aumha.org/articles.htm

2. Motherboard drivers?

Were they updated and installed by YOU? Hint: Microsoft won't do this for you properly.

3. BIOS is current?

In some machines, I've found this to be the cure. Worth noting that a new board/machine doesn't assure us that the BIOS is the latest release.

4. The PARASITES.

A new side effect of the parasites we find and eject with Adware, Spybot, Cwshredder and Housecall (yes, you use all of thest) is that shutdown errors can occur if you have pests.

5. More power.

Some machines were fitted with just big enough power supplies. Your post neglected to write about the hardware. This leaves this issue open to discussion.

my systems a sis 730s board
AMD 900
512 MB ram
15 and 40 gig harddrive
onboard agp 64 bit graphics card
as well as the geeforce
onboard sis sound
onboard lan
unsure as to power source
been trying to update the bios for a while but finding it hard to get a new version
as to parasites it happens even of a clean install
but only after drivers have been installed yet there all updated and show no problems

Clean install would be missing drivers.

While I did note such, let me repeat it.

Microsoft doesn't install motherboard and other drivers. You must fetch and install them or your issues shall continue.

As to power, the only issue there is that aging does degrade a 300 Watt PSU from 1/4 to 1/2 of it's original maximum power. The issue usually doesn't show up as shutdown issues, but random hangs and reboots. For now you need to look into how to properly install a Microsoft OS.
