After defagmenting my hard drive via Win ME, the system is running very sluggishly and the hard drive "working" light is on non-stop. What went wrong and can I fix it?

do a defrag again
maybe sumthing just got "unsettled" from some freak accident the computer made and needs to be "resettled"
like when a jiffy lube (true story) changes the oil in your car and for some strange reason caused your car has the check oil light on all the time and makes that annoying ding sound all because the oil the service center was using was old oil...(how did they do that? never went there agian...)
all you have to do is change the oil again (at a diff place) and everything's better
or in your case defrag the HD
