After booting up it gets to win xp window and stops

May 30, 2007 10:33AM PDT

I am running win xp pro, 512 ram,120GB hd.
windows will not boot up all the way, it gets to the windows screen and goes no further. I have tried to go to safe mode and I do get the option to ues but it still goes to the windown screen and stops. I have surch for a boot up disk but was unable to find one that would work. As you can see I have no way to access windows to make any changes. I can get into the Bios but have no idea what to change or
do once I am there. I need help.
Thanks in advance

Safe Mode

I'm not sure I understood. Did you say you "can" get into 'safe mode'? If that is so, try selecting 'last known good configuration.
Good luck,
Eddie

System Restore

Since you can get into ?Safe Mode?, maybe try the next procedure, if that doesn?t work, have a quick look at the following article to see if you can provide any further clues as to where we can go from here. One of the questions it asks is, what, if anything, did you do last? Meaning, adding new software or drivers etc. This will be clues that someone can use to give you a hand.

Few Options Then...
May 31, 2007 6:02AM PDT

Did you try the "Last Known Good Configuration" option.. If not, then restart the computer and immediately start pressing the F8 key.. When the selection screen loads, use the up/down arrow keys to select the "Last Known Good Configuation" option and press the "Enter" key. Follow the prompts to restore the computer. If it's going to restore the computer, , it will do so automatically.

If that doesn't work, a Windows XP disc would be my next suggestion.. But since you mentioned you don't have one, nor do you have the Recovery discs that may have come with the computer, then you may need to purchase a new XP disc and reinstall everything after formatting.. Of course, the underlying culprit could be a bad hard drive which won't allow XP to be installed.. In that case, you would also require a new hard drive.

Hope this helps.

Safe mode F8

I guess your BIOS boot option is set to fast boot so you may not realise when you should press F8.. If you can get into safe mode .. then try System restore... Like the other comments on here.. i guess it was somethng you loaded

Thanks for all the help but nothing has helped, so I think I am going
