After blue screen message Dell latitude c640

After blue screen message my Dell latitude c640 unable to display anything, when power on the system just power and HDD light on and locks lights flashing for a while then automatically powered off. Is there some one help me in this regard?

1. I cleaned the machine. Read http://forums.cnet.com/5208-19681_102-0.html?messageID=3196452&tag=forums06;posts#3196452

2. The OS was corrupt but they wanted to save files. We slipped in a new blank drive, installed the OS and put the old drive in some USB hard drive case for them to copy files out.
