That means: time for a repair install of your OS.

Find you disk and go for it. It's not sure to help, but it has the advantage that she won't lose her files. Unless, by accident, you do a destructive install. But that's only a second step if this one isn't sufficient.

after avg download cannot sign on Windows XP service pack 3
by al2023 / February 2, 2010 12:41 PM PST

After loading the AVG 9.0 virus protection , I kept getting a message that I needed to load ANTIVIRUS 2010 as I had a virus on my computer. I attempted to remove the virus with AVG which showed I had about 4 threats and then I restarted . After that the system booted to the log on screen . I never assigned a log on , so I just clicked logon. It logged on and then "saved settings". I also tried Safe Mode with identical results. I loaded my recovery disk in the cd drive and restarted, selected R for repairand ir wanted the log on password. No luck there either. I tried the same in safemode and got to the screen asking if I wanted to startup in windows, safe mode ,directory services restore mode.ect. I selected directory services restore mode. This briefly showed a message , "cannot determine file system of drive\??\[5F034edB-1d46-11d79d62-00 4063c3a0c7 Checking file system C: volume clean I tried another hard drive , after the removal and restart it reboots until the windows screen shows and then reboots.
