affordable tv with good standard definition image?

Jun 26, 2009 3:49AM PDT

Yesterday I purchased the Toshiba 26AV502R on sale for ~$400. I don't have High Definition, but HDTVs are the only thing that the store had to offer. So upon bringing the TV home and setting it up, i was appalled at the standard definition image quality. It really was that bad.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a model of a TV with good standard definition quality. I'm not looking to drop more than $500, and I was hoping for at least 26".

Upon doing a bit of research, I found the Sony Bravia KDL-32L4000 which seems to be a good television for standard definition use, but I wanted to get a few pundit's opinions instead of my amateur one before ending up having to return another television.

So, my question is, what is a reasonably priced television from a reputable manufacturer that will display standard definition well?
