Advise on Antivirus Software

I have been using Norton AV on my PC since I bought it 2 years ago. As it came pre-installed with with NAV '04, I continued to follow up with the 05 & 06 products. Found it easy to use as well. So far, Norton has been effective in catching viruses that I encountered, namely Netsky, Mybot and 1 or 2 more types that I can't remember. Spyware like 180 Search Assistant and Zango were also caught by my 06 version. Anyway, my Norton '06 will be expiring in a couple of months and I'm considering trying out a different brand. My friends tell me to use Internet Security products but I prefer to stick to just Antivirus as I use Zone Alarm(free), Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE and I don't think I want to use the free AV apps. This 4 defence combination has been smooth on my system and I've not experienced any hiccups or conflicts. Features I look for are user friendliness, effectiveness and smooth sailing to my system. Heavy usage in terms of system resources is not an issue as I've got 1Gb of RAM. To my knowledge, I find McAfee AV scan not so user friendly. A family member of mine was using NOD 32 and got his system infested with 46 viruses(partly cos he neglected to update for quite a long time). I read in PC Mag about Bit Defender coming out tops in an AV competition held in Germany earlier this year. A friend was using McAfee IS Suite, had Sober Worm, had to do a System Recovery but virus still there. He switched to Bit Defender and immediately the virus was removed. Impressive! Ok, when it comes to AV products, I know everyone has their own prefered brand. Don't know which one to choose. Or maybe I continue with Norton '07. Any recommendations? Thanks.

McAFEE User..comments
by castingRod47 / November 24, 2006 4:58 PM PST

I have the Internet Security Suite 8-I have always used McAFEE since my first DELL PC..in five years I have had two attempts at taking over my PC..the first was a Potentially UNWANTED File(Dialer)..the second was an actual attack thru AOL 8.0/AIM had a female ID ask me to OPEN a FILE-which McAFEE shut down by turning OFF my PC..my AOL account was suspended in the Log-on Field..I needed to Telephone AOL to Sign-On again..that's been it in five years..One Suggestion in McAFEE Anti-Virus is to QUARENTINE-since the File may re-install itself w/o a Quarentine..also..I use FIREWALLPlus OPTIONS to RUN Set-Up Assistant(check the configuration)and RESET also to re-Configure the Firewall Settings..and I RUN-tight/I archive my FILES-so as too NOT have the HDD running some Index Service or what-ever..I use 512MB's RAM..and a NTFS-File SYSTEM..I LIMIT my InterNET Surfing..I never USE Favorites/or the ADDRESS Book or I Delete what winds up in my Address Book/keeping Addresses on a Seperate CD or Floppy..every three months I re-install my OS..and even the ISP CD might need a re-install a couple of times per month..Components LOAD slowly at times..sometimes I need to wait before Sighning ON to WINDOWS[XP]like about five minutes..and then another 10-20 minutes just on the DESKTOP..I even re-install my Modem Driver at times..Basically..Don't store large amounts of Files(ARCHIVE)them onto a CD-DVD-Ext.HDD..Use DiskClean before Shutting Down..CLEAR the BROWSER History..I even CLEAR the EVENT VIEWER and CLICK Restore DEFAULTS before Shutting Down..and Re-Configure before Signing ONLINE..and then CHECK all Updates..works everytime..It takes me about:20minutes to get safely ONLINE and then Offline useing Delete..having No serious issues except MODEM noise..some Browser stalling..or I need to Double CLICK some Security Script..which I find acceptable.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
