Advise for newiPAQ user

Apr 18, 2005 7:26AM PDT

I have a home network set up with 2 computers and a notebook. The notebook has 802.11g and Bluetooth capability. Because of the Microsoft ACTIVATION policy, I can only install my new HP iPAQ hx2755 software on one (1) computer.
My question is what computer should (the best for flexibilty) I install the iPAQ software on, the Dell 8300 (main), HP Notebook?
The Dell is ethernet capable, the notebook is ethernet, 802.11g and Bluetooth capable, also the HP iPAQ hx2755 is 802.11B and Bluetooth capable. Thank you.

And I didn't see any activation required. Very odd.

re:Software ACTIVATION

I was just reading the software CD seal sticker which states "This product uses technological measures for copy protection. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE PRODUCT IF YOU DO NOT FULLY COMPLY WITH THE PRODUCT PROCEDURES. Production activation procedures and Microsoft's privacy policy will be detailed during initial launch of the product, or upon certain reinstallations of the software product or reconfigurations of the computer, and may be completed by internet or telephone (toll charges mey apply)."

I have read the CD's information, readme and other helpful before installation files. I gather from what I have read, one installation on one computer is the EULA agreement. I haven't actually installed the programs yet so it may vary from what is stated.

I was asking for help, suggestions and experienced guidance, which may help me avoid installation/reinstallations. So, if you have the inside scoop on the actual installation/launching, and activation/non-activation of the programs I would really appreciate the guidance. I would appreciate anyone's help, guidance and suggestions.

Thank you.

What is on that CD?

Maybe it has more than ActiveSync?

My bet is some version of Outlook is on there, but the bundles vary and you didn't tell.

The only common software is ActiveSync and there is no activation.

What Bob has told you is that...

ActiveSync itself can be installed on as many computers as you need to install it on.

The ActiveSync EULA states in part:

? Installation and Use. Microsoft grants to you a non-exclusive and limited license to install and use a reasonable number of copies of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT on computers that you use to exchange data and software with digital electronic devices which include a version of the Windows CE operating system software, including without limitation devices running Microsoft Pocket PC Software and Microsoft Smartphone Software.

That license pertains ONLY to the ActiveSync software and NOT to any other software (such as Outlook) that may be on the CD.

You can also upgrade your ActiveSync as newer versions come out. Here is a link to AS 3.8 (and License)

Thank you for the clarification. I have decided to install the software on the notebook. If I have to uninstall for configuration reasons, so be it. I checked the disc and it has ActiveSync 3.7.1, Outlook 2002, and some standard subscription software on it. The Outlook 2002 is the only one that might be an activation problem.
Thank all you guys and gals that helped with this matter.
