(advice) Toshiba Satellite from Best Buy...

Mar 27, 2005 9:46AM PST

I bought a Toshiba Satellite A65-S1062 about 8 months ago from bestbuy that was supposed to have 256mb RAM. I recently bought a PC game where the minimum requirements for RAM was 256 and i couldn't play it. So i ran my DxDiag and it turns out my laptop only came with 192mb RAM!!! They shirked me 64mb which is about a $50 value and they can't do anything for me because my parts warranty is expired. So next time you buy a laptop from BestBuy or anyone else for that matter run your DxDiag or equivalent and be sure you got what you paid for. It's not really something you think about doing or at least i didn't.

You only have 192mb because your graphics card shares 64mb ram. It is allocated for GRAPHICs. ATI Radeon 7000 IGP 64Mb VRAM (shared}.

is that a card spec??

I read any literature i could find on my laptop and nothing anywhere says the 64mb RAM is being shared. Is this an ATI spec? there is no explicit mention of shared RAM anywhere but i guess it's still a great piece of information. Thank you very much. Any day i learn something new is a good day.

Did you ask the sales rep to print you out a detailed spec sheet? They have that ability, and it will tell you the mb's of the graphics and if they are shared or dedicated.

not a print out....

i did get additional spec documentation but i never saw anything indicating shared memory. It makes complete sense to me now but it would have been nice to know when i purchased it. Water under the bridge i figure...
