Hello,
There are several reasons why you will never see a factory built region free dvd player.
1. Movie Studios - They like the control, in my opinion.
2. Regional television formats. In the US we use ATSC and NTSC formats. The NTSC analog interlaced format has 525 horizontal scan lines in its picture and runs at 30 frames per second. ATSC the digital format has 720 - 1920 horizontal lines and still runs at 30 frames per second.
In Europe you have multiple television formats, but mainly PAL (SECAM is another popular format) have 576 horizontal scan lines and run at about 25 frames per second. These formats function on the European standard power grid which is 50 cycle AC current at 240 volts.
However, if you are really interested in purchasing and viewing other region DVDs, you might want to look into getting a software DVD player for your computer that excepts other regions.
Doing a search on Google will bring up a ton of Region Free DVD players for the computer, not stand alone (I wouldn't trust them), but rather software for the computer.
Good luck and have fun!
If you have any other questions, let me know.
Take Care,

Looking for a stand alone dvd player that will play dvd's from all regions. All I find for sale on line appear to be modified by somewhat scetchy looking outfits. Are there factory built region-free players? Anyone have good or bad experience to share about a specific model?
