Advice on converting LPs to MP3

I have a large collection of LPs I would like to rip to a hard drive and then to an IPod or other MP3 player. Is there a Cnet tutorial on how to do this? I searched but could not find one. I think I know how to connect my turntable to the sound card input on my PC, but what ripping software should I use and is there an easy way to get the track, artist and album information for each song? Will ITunes do this for me? Is there a website where the info can be found and downloaded for each album? Anything would be better than having to manually type the info for every song. Any help would be appreciated.
