Advice on buying HD/miniDv camcorder please!

Hi,
I am a screenwriter in Ireland who wants to break into directing. I am going to South Korea next month where I'm sure I will be able to pick up a half decent hd/minidv camcorder for much cheaper than it would be here or elsewhere. The trouble is I don't know the first thing about camcorders so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I am looking to spend anything up to 1000 euro. I would be grateful if someone could advise me on models and how much you think they would be over there.
