Advice greatly appreciated-In need of new digital camera!

I am need of a new digital camera for taking shots of artwork, big pieces to tiny pieces --so it must be able to take great close ups, but also with the option to be used as an everyday fool around family camera...Size not an issue...battery life is...any advice greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

New Digital Camera

You need to provide a price range for the camera before we can recommend a particular camera.

Most digital cameras can do what you want.
For tabletop photography, it is good to have a camera with some manual controls.
As this gives you the ability to control depth of field.

DSLR camera

Any of the low end DSLR cameras will prove excellent for the job.

Most popular, are:
Canon 400D, 450D
Nikon D60

For very close shots of small items, you will need a macro lens.

Plan on using a tripod for macro shots.
A very steady camera is needed.
