I'm pretty sure the new iPods are locked to iTunes, but I not really an iPod person so wait for someone to confirm

limewire

limewire is file sharing client, itunes is a multimedia player. Perhaps I'm missing something in your post, but the 2 appear to me to be functionally different. You can easily drag and drop files you downloaded from limewire (or for that matter any p2p client) into itunes. Not only that, but if you are so disinclined towards using itunes, there are alternatives.

Alternatives

You're quite welcome.

For alternatives, try looking through this link:

I actually do use iTunes to manage my ipod (or at least I did when I still had one, but that's another story), so I can't vouch for or against any of those alternatives.

Limewire and iTunes
Oct 10, 2007 12:26PM PDT

I know for a fact because I personally use limewire for my music but I run it on an iMac and limewire automatically imports the music I download in iTunes. I know that you can use the limewire program to play music etc. that you download but I have mine configured to put all my song into iTunes (very handy) and since you use iTunes to load music onto an iPod I don't know why it wouldn't work. You could just create a folder in iTunes (which comes with the iPod I beleive) and just drag and drop all of your music into a folder in iTunes. Then if you were really bored like I have been some nights you can make additional folders with different catagories of music etc. in them. Hope this answers your question.

ALL IPODS NEED ITUNES

Apple made it so that you can't use ANY other software to sync ur ipod, it has to be itunes. Personally though, itunes is pretty good so its not much of a problem.
