Advanced SystemCare Free 3.1.1

Jan 6, 2009 1:57AM PST

I installed this last night on Vista and did a clean with the default settings. I rebooted to find that my MFT and MFT mirrors (Master File Table) had been corrupted, which means that not only will Windows not boot, but that I can not access any of the files on the hard drive whatsoever! I've been through several data recovery programs and still can not access my files. My entire hard drive is "corrupted and unreadable."

Windows repair wont work and I cant load a previous restore point because my computer can't even read the disk. All my graduate school applications and information are on the corrupted hard drive, and about 100 hours of work is down the drain. This is wonderful.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD. CNET, PULL THIS APPLICATION OFF!

Getting data off of unbootable hard drive
Jan 8, 2009 1:00AM PST

If you can download a copy of puppy linux live version from somewhere you can probably use that to recover your hard drive data. I've had an unreadable, unbootable hard drive, and the cd drive wouldn't operate to run my repair disk. I put my puppy linux cd in, the computer recognized it and I was able to recover the data I needed. I was also able to then remove the cd, put in my windows repair cd and get my hard drive working again.

Don't install it!

Pull this bloody program! Thank you for informing me of this. This program is designed to bend you over and slowly murder you with a knife.
Fortunately, it erased just part of my network, which I assume was sending mostly, as I couldn't connect to any website. I performed a system restore of 3 days ago, after this I downloaded Ubuntu and uninstalled Advanced System Care. I like Ubuntu, not many things for it, but it's still nice.
You can probably download Ubuntu off another computer, and store it as a USB stick, and then boot off of the stick (Press ESC at the company's boot screen, or in some cases, F12, then select boot from USB.)
Considering the fact Linux and Windows both run differently, but somehow similarly, you SHOULD be able to access it as a File System. You can download Ubuntu from Ubuntu.com, follow the instructions there.
Or you can do as he said below, Puppy Linux!

You should make backups on a external disk! Sad
