ADS Video Capture

Nov 25, 2004 1:38AM PST

Can I use another Video editor with ADS Video capture Devise i.e. Pinnacle or MyDVD? I purchased an ADS Instant DVD 2.0 two weeks ago after reading some great reviews about the product. I had intended to transfer my home movies from VHS to DVD. The Capture devise works perfectly however the Ulead Video Studio 7 SE DVD that cane with the devise dose not work at all. After installing and uninstalling the Video Studio software three times, I contacted Ulead tech support for help. I explained problem I was having with the Video Studio software in great detail to the Tech person who concluded that the software dose not recognize the drivers for the external ADS devise! They said it was a common problem many customers were having with the external ADS devise. I was redirected to the ADS web site where I downloaded two patches, which were suppose to fix the problem. However, the Tech person didn?t give it much hope and suggested I upgrade to a fire wire version that is more stable. Needless to say the patches I downloaded from the ADS site did not work! I?m tempted to chuck the whole thing and purchase another external devise but I really like the ease in which ADS captures video.

I'll write no. Here's why. You ask "Can I use another Video editor with ADS Video capture Devise" which has a flaw in the question.

Capture is one step of a process and editing is another. One can capture with any device, and edit the result with almost any editor.

As such, I think you need to restate the issue and the question.

In closing, such may feel like crud on the DOS BASED WINDOWS. I have the Ulead software and it's just fine here. But it's Windows 2000 and XP which don't have the old limitations.

Hi, You didn't state what OS or the model of the ADS you are using. It is sometimes hard to give a good answer without all the info. Here is a link from user timwerx that has a lot of good info. John

My question is what format does the ADS capture on your harddrive? That's why I like it to be in some common formats like mpeg2 or uncompress .AVI; Then you can check with Pinancle if it will work with this format. I am puzzle why a program that comes with the unit does not work with it though.
