Adobe update causing error

Feb 3, 2012 7:58AM PST

Another example of developers shoving firmware and software updates down our throats and not caring how they effect our system. My PC ran perfectly fine before I updated to the new version of adobe flash. Since then I get this pop up error everyday, over and over again. I've tried every option it gives me, it still keeps happening. I don't even know what program is giving me the error, When it happens there's a minimized window at the bottom that says "Copy Folder", whatever that means. Is this a windows error? An IE error? a Flash error?? It Usually happens after I close my browser or email client. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash twice. No change. I run CCleaner daily, I don't know if that makes a difference. Someone help please!! Thanks in advance.
The error message:
-----------------------------------------
The C:Users\____\AppData\roaming\macromedia\flash player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys\settings.sol folder does not exist. This file may have been moved or deleted. Do you want to create it?
-------------------------------------------

Flash Player Version: 11.1.102.55
OS: Windows Vista (32-bit)
here's a picture of it.

Actually this one might be covered at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949109

I re-created this message by "using a registry cleaner."

It's one of those that registry cleaners cause more harm than good. Why would Adobe have to deal with a damaged OS?

repair tool

Thanks for the link. I ran the repair tool. It did something, not sure what. I guess I'll see if it did the trick if it stops happening. I do run a registry cleaner pretty often but have been doing that for years on this system and have never got this type of error. I think it's more than a coincidence that it started after the adobe update and it's an adobe file that it's reporting a problem with. Thanks agan.

I have exactly the same problem, but I don't understand the repair
tool - or rather: I don't like to edit the registry without knowing precisely how to do
it step by step. I should be very thankful for some explanatory hints? It's a damned problem!

Flash Player Version: 11.1.102.55

Yeah I didn't understand it very well either. The repair tool gives you a small list of problems you may be having that you can choose & automatically repair. I chose the option to repair the "unable to move or rename files or folders" This was the closest to my problem. Subsequently I am still getting the error. It appears to not have worked. I still believe this error to be tied to the update of my Flash Player. As it never ocurred before that. Windows randomly reporting it can not find a file or folder that is clearly there is a new one on me, I'm at a loss. Can't find any other threads on the subject. I'll keep searching. If you come across a fix please post it here. I will do the same.

A registry cleaner could have deleted it. HOWEVER.

I have tried the Fixit Tools - it didn't solve the problem - not even found it!.

And I see the manual steps too.

Is there any reason you didn't do the manual method?

esperanto?

I simply didn't understand the instructions for fixing it manually:

To fix this problem, create the missing <Folder ID> registry keys in the following registry subkey based on the values in knownfolders.h<span class="pLink">
<div class="indent"><div class="reg_path">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions</div></div>

That's esperanto for me!

I understand.

Haven't tried this yet but it appears to be for a different problem, though the error messages are very similar. It says it happens when trying to rename or move a folder. I never get this error when moving or renaming folders. This error pops up randomly usually after closing my browser. (IE9) And usually upon exiting a page that uses flash. I am going to experiment with different browsers and see if this is a case of IE9,the new flash & vista not playing well together. It is annoying but I can live with it for a while, I don't want to go screwing around with my registry until I'm 100% sure whats going on. I have stopped using the registry cleaner feature of CCleaner as well.
