Adobe software advice

Jul 27, 2007 5:49PM PDT

I have recently purchased the Adobe Creative Suite package. I love the programs but I will be working on projects when they just close for no reason. It is very frustrating and happens way too often to just ignore. I was wondering if I installed something wrong or if there is a trick to keeping the programs running normally. I also realized that when I use Illustrator I can not use the pathfinder tools at all, the program will just lock up. I would appreciate any advice, Thank you

CS will not work on your Commodore 64 Happy

Without any further information, see the red print just above each post, like CS version, Computer model, OS version, RAM, etc., all answers would be more of a guess than anything else.
Your problem could be the aforementioned Commodore 64, lack of RAM, a G3 processor, an overfull hard drive, a defective logic board, processor over heating, blocked air vents.

Why don't the Illustrator pathfinder tools work? Did you contact the manufacturer about this problem. If they are in the Mac version, they should work.

Waiting for more info

... for the equipment end of the equation. Does the computer have the recommended processor and RAM for the programs being used?

As Peter say's, there is always a chance your computer may not be up to the task. It also depends on which version of the software you are using. Illustrator CS2 was a nice program but always ran a little buggy on my G4 iBook.

Sorry about not having all the info. I have a MacBook Pro:

MBPRO 15/2.33 CTO

With the following configuration:

Processor 065-6642 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 065-6619 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM-2x1GB
Hard Drive 065-6623 120GB Serial ATA Drive@5400rpm
Optical Drive 065-6625 SuperDrive 6X
Display 065-6631 15" Widescreen Display
Modem 065-6644 Apple USB Modem
Apple Software Solutions 065-6203 iWork '06 Preinstalled

I am not very computer hardware savvy, so is this ok? It is new and I haven't had time to take up too much memory yet. lol.

I haven't contacted the Manufacturer about the pathfinder tools not working, but I will. I do have the Mac version, however they are the education version (would that have any effect?).

I have Illustrator CS2, Photoshop CS2 and Indesign as well, and they all will close randomly. I have become a pro at saving every 5 mins but it is just annoying. They are the education versions, so I'm not sure if that would be a problem. I will definately contact Adobe to find out more.

OK, you have a decent machine with enough processor power and RAM to cope with CS2. Unfortunately CS2 was not designed for the Intel Processors and is running with the aid of another piece of software called Rosetta.
This is invisible to the end user but it is what allows PPC programs to run on the Intel processor.
This "might" be a contributor to the problems you are having.
The educational versions should not make any difference.

Try this: Open disk utility and run Repair Permissions. It sometimes works wonders.

Do not confuse Hard Drive space with Memory. They are two totally different things. You have ample memory for the tasks you are asking this machine to do.

Others, notably Grim, will be along shortly to aid with this problem (I hope)

Meanwhile, try the permissions thing

Tricky problem
Jul 28, 2007 3:34PM PDT

I have yet to work on one of the new Intell based macs but the computer you have should be running smooth as silk... no glitches at all. I suspect you may need to reinstall the adobe software you're using. It sounds like the initial installation was somehow corrupted. An educational Adobe version should not make a difference in the use or performance.

The fact that your pathfinder tools lock up your Illustrator program may be significant though. I did a google search which mentions upgrade to OS X 10.4.8 on an Intel Mac causes problems. What OS version are you using?

Try this link about your problem as well... http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx/.3bc1d732

Couple questions though.

The software apparently is new. Is the computer as well? Have you had other problems with the mac book pro if it isn't new?

Have you tried using the diagnostic utilities that your OS installation disc has? Did repairing permissions help as Peter suggested?

Ultimately, you may need a bug fix from Adobe or Apple or you may need to go back to pre 10.4.8.

Let us know what results you get.

good luck
