Adobe Software

Sep 4, 2009 10:34PM PDT

Hi everyone. I wanted to buy Adobe Flash CS3 and a friend directed me to a place name "AdobePromo.com". They said they sell adobe software downloads cheaper. I purchased the Adobe Flash CS3 and downloaded it, but it has no serial# to activate the software it looks like the 30 days trial version. I think I might have been ripped off. Has any of you ever heard about AdobePromo.com? They claim to be a ligit business.

This is what I read on their site: "Buy Adobe software with 80% discount! We do guarantee that all programs are 100% fully working retail versions - no demos or academic versions."

So it seems time to go to their contact page: http://www.adobepromo.com/contacts.php and ask them about the issue. You'll see a CNET Certified and BBB accredited logo on that page. Don't know if they are fake, of course.

As they only accept payments via credit card, it won't be difficult to get your money back if it IS a scam. Just refuse the payment and let the CC-company do the work.

I looked for the site on the whois-database. The contact details of the registrar:
Anatoliy Kuvirkin
Fax: +8.9111491900
Biruzova 21/2 72
Ryazan, 390039
RU
email: advertolog@gmail.com
It's first registered end of May 2009.

Doesn't look too promising. I wonder if the BBB would accredit a Russian firm. Why not ask the BBB? They should know.

What were your friends experiences with them?

On the sunny side: you lost at most 20% of what the software normally costs. So, the worst that can happen is that you pay 120% where 100% should have been enough. That's a good price for a lesson about verifying unknown shops before buying there.

Adobe Software

Hi Kees, I checked the Better Business Bureau web site for the name "adobepromo.com" and I got a reply saying there was no listing for that name. I guess it is not legitimate. My friend who told me about the site did not order anything from them. He just told me that he saw this web site that offered downloaded software at 80% off. I guess it was too good to be true. I contacted my credit card company, and they said they were going to remove the charge from my account and dispute the charge with the company or their bank. Thanks for your prompt response.

Scam to the Utmost
Sep 6, 2009 10:41PM PDT

I purchased Lightroom 2 from this website and then decided to do a little digging. The badges of certification/accreditation at the bottom of the page were not links (first unusual sign). So, I went to the BBB website and here to CNET to check them out. Neither had any reference to them (other than this post). Tracking the IP of the web server, I discovered that it is housed in the Netherlands; a country that doesn't recognize the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. After receiving the downloaded product, I noticed that they had given me four serials. This is highly unusual for a legitimate software product. So, I scoured the internet for a pirated serials website and the top four serials on the list were the exact four serials that I was given. I'm disputing the charge with my CC company.

So, in short, you will definitely get a copy of the software; it's just going to be a pirated version. DO NOT BUY!

Adobe Software

Hi Admiralkymia, thanks for your response. It is too late for me, I already purchased the Adobe Flash CS3 download. It downloaded like you said, but I have no serial#. I contacted my Credit Card company the same day I downloaded the product. They said they were going to remove the charge from my account and are going to fight the payment to these crooks. I always purchased adobe software from Adobe, Amazon.com or MacMall. I never even shopped on e-bay out of fear that something like this might happen. This is the first time I ever bought any software from an unknown vendors and it is going to be my last.

I recently purchased Photoshop from this site. I can't believe I was so stupid! I not only lost my money but never received a download or confirmation. They took the amount out of my account twice! I called my bank and filed a claim and luckily my bank will refund my money......don't buy anything from this website! I had to get a new bankcard because of this.
