Resolved Question

Adobe Reader XI

Jan 3, 2015 2:28AM PST

I have Adobe Reader X ver 10.1.13. Adobe is nagging me to go to XI. I have not seen any notices of this version on this forum and would like some recommendations.

Also would like to know if I can update to XI without first removing the Adobe Reader X 10.1.13.

Thank you -- Adobe has always been a challenge to me.

Happy New Year everyone.

depends on you

why would there be a notice on this forum? It is not a cnet product and adobe will tend to nag you to update. It would be best to go to adobes website to check out their latest and see if you need it.

You do not need to remove older versions first if updating unless you just want to.

I have been coming to this forum since it began. I am here by choice and because it is where I find the best technical help and moderators. Sorry you are offended. I do not need your advice on how to download/install the newly released Adobe Reader XI version. You are probably not familiar with this forum, but Carol (moderator) always publishes a post when there is an Adobe product update release, along with valuable information. I always check out those posts before updating or upgrading Adobe products. As far as I could tell when I posted my OP, her last Adobe update was back in early December for a different version, and she has not yet posted the new release version about which I am asking.

look at what carol posts

she only posts if there is a security concern or security update. What you were asking about was neither. Maybe it is you who do not understand how the forum works.

The word "Answer" appears on a post that did not give me the answer for which I was looking. Perhaps I did not clearly state it in the first paragraph of my OP. I would very much appreciate your removing "Answer" from renegade600's first post. In all my years coming here with my tech questions, I have never had a bad experience with a poster as I did with that person.

My thanks.......Miki

Miki, This Is What I Would Do To Upgrade To Reader XI
Jan 5, 2015 8:41AM PST

First, download the full Adobe Reader 11.0.10 installation file from the link below:

NOTE: Clicking on the link below will immediately open the download dialogue window.

http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/en_US/AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe

Once that's done, then go to the Control Panel-Programs and Features section, then uninstall version 10.. (Unfortunately, I've had times when Reader would install both versions 10 and 11 on the computer during an upgrade in version, which makes for confusing issues. That's why I uninstall a previous major numerical version number before installing the new one. Updates within the same major numerical version only need to installed over the top of the current version.) After version 10 is uninstalled, then restart the computer and use the download installation file for version 11 to install the new one.

As to the "Answer" listing, it has to stay as each answer to original post will indicate the "Answer".

Hope this helps.

just open your Adobe, click on help, about Adobe, and click check for updates. If an update is found just install it. No need to uninstall the old one.
