Question

Adobe Reader refuses to print.

Dec 13, 2013 12:37AM PST

Getting the error: "before you can perform print-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." I have like 10 printers installed. Can't use any other reader due to the file being DRM protected. Can't even use distiller or pro. I was told to save as pdf from print dialog but it won't even pull that up. end of my rope. Help

ps: Mac Pro 2010, osx 10.8 reader 11

Answer
I've seen this before.

A few rare PDF's are marked/tagged/set to no printing allowed. That's the message I saw with those PDFs.

As getting around this is prohibited by the forum policies I end here with a "me too" except to add that you need to contact the author for a less restricted PDF.

Happened to me.

I was doing a family tree and tried to use a site that would print it. I signed up and they sent me a code to use to print it. It never worked even after many support emails.

So I found another route to follow and got it done.

and I am a rebellious and non conformist individual,I might have to ask why you wouldn't use Foxit Reader here -> http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ ,You can view and print whatever you want in PDF form and many others.

Couple Foxie up with Libre Office here -> http://www.libreoffice.org/download and you have a suite that can read and view and write anything you choose

I know, It's a lot to absorb at once but, deal with it

Im using a Mac. The DRM on this file only allows me to open the file through its proprietary "Ownerguard software" This only gives the option to open the file in Adobe reader from within. I viewed the license and it explicitly states that printing is not restricted.

Looks solved to me.

Not solved as is printing but the DRM is broken and it's an area that has never been fixed by end users. That is, back to the author for a fix or version that works on Apple machines.

Sometimes you run into folk that think all this stuff is debugged. It's not.

nope.

This is the equivalent of IT telling me to turn it off and on again.... I tried that already! Tried 3 different versions dating back to snow leopard. This seems to be a problem with the file itself as these readers will all print any other document.
