adobe Reader 9 how to INSTALL updates already downloaded

May 23, 2010 8:33AM PDT

I have an icon on the right side of my taskbar (what's that area called by the clock?) for Adobe 9 that says update is ready to install. HOW DO I INSTALL IT? I looked all over the menus in the program and found the preferences where it is checked to automatically download updates but let me choose when to install them. So how? Nothing happens when I click the icon by the clock. And if I click Help-Check for Updates all it says is Updater is already running.

Searched on the Adobe site and in their forums but only find how to get an update.

There's got to be a way!

Tried everything. Right click the desktop shortcut, tray icon, etc. Finally got it by turning off automatically d/l updates. Then rebooting computer. Then open adobe and check for updates. Which it did and it re-downloaded them and installed them. But what about the ones that were already downloaded? If it d/l them again would it have overwritten the first ones? Or could they still be on the computer somewhere else?

So for the future and other programs that might d/l w/o installing how are you suppose to do the install?

That's good you have managed to solve it.

You asked about the ones already downloaded. I can't be sure, but I suspect that the re-downloading will have over-written the ones already there.

Updates usually work without problems. I would guess that the Adobe update you had was a 'one-off', perhaps the download was corrupted in some way which happens from time to time.

If you do have problems in the future, call back in and perhaps we can help.

Well done, and good luck with future updates.
