Resolved Question

Adobe Media Encoder : laptop overheating

Jul 4, 2018 7:32AM PDT

Hello,
I have an i5 3230M laptop with 8g ram.
To be able to edit 4K, I tried to use proxy in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Media Encoder starts encoding, and some minutes later, my laptop turn off because of overheating.
Any way to lower media encoder performances, so it takes more time but uses less CPU and then avoid overheating ? Or any other solutions guys ?
A big thanks in advance

1- Is this one good enough ? I've already ordered it. Waiting to receive it https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C
2- Okay, that's very interesting and I think I already changed that for my music production (DAW software works better when you allow 100% usage of CPU, but apparently, for adobe media encoder, it's a bad idea). I will try that and tell you how it worked. Thanks dude !

Answer
What Have You Done To Clean Out The Computer?
Jul 4, 2018 9:31AM PDT

If you insist on using a laptop for such encoding, which is processor intensive, you will always run into heat issues. To make the computer as cool as possible, use compressed air to blow out all the dust from inside the computer and at all of the vents. Perform all such encoding in a cold room (The government agency I used to work for ran its server/switch/data rooms at about 60° F or less) and although not perfect, if you've got a laptop cooler, try that as well. In addition, it's entirely possible the heatsink needs to be cleaned and new thernal paste needs to be applied.

Ideally, use a desktop computer with lots of fans and a bigger processor which makes the work easier for the computer.

And unfortunately, I know of no way to reduce Adobe Media Encoder's processing requirements.

Hope this helps.

Hello mate,
Thanks for your reply

I have no way to have a desktop pc, as it doesn't meet my needs at all.

I am planning indeed to have a new laptop with an i7-8750H, and I'm planning to buy this too with my new laptop https://www.amazon.com/Targus-Chill-Laptop-Black-AWE55US/dp/B002NU5O9C/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1530723368&sr=1-3&keywords=targus+cool+pad , do you think it will help the cooling ?

-----
But for now I'm stuck with this one, so I there's anything I could do to lower the processes, even if it's longer / less performance, as soon as it doesn't overheat, I would be great.

PS : I already changed the past and cleaned it a few months ago (actually it's not me, but a professional)
