Question

Adobe Flash Player Warning?

Apr 21, 2012 2:04AM PDT

Running Win VISTA Premium...

Since updating Adobe Flash Player, everytime I start IE9 and go to almost any website, the following warning box pops up. It pops up several times requiring at least 4 or 5 clicks to allow in order for the warnings to stop.

Here is what the warning says:

A Website wants to open web content using this program on your computer

The program will open outside of Protected mode. Internet Explorer's Protected mode helps protect your computer. If you do not trust this website, do not open this program.

Name: Adobe Flash Player
Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated

(A box is here) - Do not show me the warning for this program again.

If I check "Do not show me the warning for the program again" and I need to change that decision, how can I undo that decision?

You can

turn off IE's Protected Mode, but I don't have any problems with it on in my own IE9 so I am unsure why you are.

If you are visiting web sites that need Adobe's Flash Player to play online videos, eg YouTube, then it is safe to disable that warning for that web site, but of course there are malicious web sites out there so I can't say which ones need IE's Protected Mode on or off.

Here's an overview of IE9's Protected Mode, and that also shows how to turn it off;

System Restore fixed the problem...

I did a system restore and that fixed the issue so far.

but it is a bit of a mystery.

I'm wondering if a recent Windows Update for IE has caused trouble here. I've seen other reports of IE problems recently and this seems to be a common denominator.

I think it was...

a recent IE update issue. When the IE Updates alert came back after the system restore, I did NOT install all of them. I may have left out one or two "recommended" but not important updates.
