adobe flash player

by duncan foster / March 20, 2011 8:22 PM PDT

I have windows 7 and internet explorer8, flash player wont work from the middle of last week so I put explorer 9 on my computor and that didn't make any difference, I diabled active x filtering, that didnt work.I then uninstalled it via "c drive" and reinstalled it from adobe website, that didn't work. I then put fire fox on and flash player works with it fine,
So why doesn't it work with explorer 8&9. Can someone please help.

Firefox And Internet Explorer Require TWO Different Installs
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 21, 2011 4:47 AM PDT
In reply to: adobe flash player

It's possible you only installed the Flash Plugin which works for Firefox. . Try the items below after UNINSTALLING Flash from the Control Panel/Programs and Features section. You'll need to install them both.:

Note: Clicking on the links below will immediately open the download dialogue window.

Flash Player for IE:
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

Flash Player for Non-IE browser (Opera, Firefox etc):
http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

Hope this helps.

Whether It's Working May Not Be Related To BBC..
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 22, 2011 3:17 AM PDT
In reply to: flash player wont work

First, visit the flash test page below to see if it's functioning..

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

If the page loads and the Flash banner shows up, RIGHT click on the banner, choose "Settings", then UNCHECK the box next to "Enable Hardware Acceleration". Does that help?

You could also try YouTube which also uses Flash Videos.

If the Flash banner shows up in all your browsers, then it's "working". If UNCHECKING the hardware acceleration box doens't fix the problem, and the BBC site is still having issues, then there are frequently problems opening various Flash videos when you have an "ad blocker" running on the computer.. Certain sites run advertisements at the beginning of the video and it's blocked, then the video doesn't play.. Try disabling the ad-blocker, or HOSTS file, and see if that helps.

Hope this helps.

I went to the test page with IE and it doesn't tell me what is running (NOTHING)but on firefox it tells me I'm running 10.2.153.1 I also tried youtube on IE and that also doesnt work but does on firefox.
As far as I'm concerned Grif adobe flash is installed but something is stopping it from running on IE
I also dont know how to diable ad-blockers or host file?

Thanks for the help.

BBC Media Player
by MarkFlax Forum moderator / March 22, 2011 3:46 AM PDT
In reply to: flash player wont work

BBC iPlayer = BBC Media Player v2.24.18269.21576 also = Abobe Flash Player 10.2.152.32

That's what I see when I right click any BBC web site iPlayer video or live video.

The BBC iPlayer is working, I am watching it right now, 17:42 GMT. You need to be resident in the UK to be able to watch it.

Those versions above are what I see whilst watching on this player.

If the option to disable hardware acceleration given by Grif fails for you, head over to the BBC iPlayer Help Page and see if anything there helps.

Are You Running Vista 64 bit, And If So..
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 22, 2011 9:56 AM PDT
In reply to: flash doesnt work

..then the Flash Player won't run on the 64 bit version of Internet Explorer.. It will function best if you use the 32 bit version of IE.

Hope this helps.

Your Term "Downloaded" Isn't Informative
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 22, 2011 9:54 AM PDT
In reply to: flash player wont work

Downloading the file to your desktop is one thing....But did you INSTALL(run) the Internet Explorer version of the Flash installer for which I provided a "download" link and you hopefully "downloaded" to your desktop?

Correct terminology helps us identify problems.

Hope this helps.

Having a similar problem
by Jairman / March 28, 2011 10:06 AM PDT

I've uninstalled and reinstalled flash, everything is up to date.

I'm using FF4, Windows 7 OS.

I know that my flash is working, on everything but Facebook games.

Thoughts?

Tried Disabling "Enable Hardware Acceleration" At Flash?
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 29, 2011 1:01 AM PDT

Since other sites are working fine, it may just be an issue with Facebook, but for some, the fix below helps:

Click on the link below and check if you can see the Flash animation (banner) without the system crashing at:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

If it works without crashing, right-click on the Flash animation (banner) and uncheck "Enable hardware acceleration" from the Settings panel. See if it helps the Facebook stuff.

Hope this helps.
