Administrator privileges screwed up?

Jan 9, 2006 9:17PM PST

Hi,

I'm the only user of my computer and have not touched any of the administrator settings. However, when I recently tried to install a piece of software I was given an error message saying that administrator level privileges are required for the install.

I checked my account prefs and everything should be fine: I'm the administrator (of course). I didn't have a password before but I've started using one and that works fine and I can modify it, no problem.

And yet, still, I can't seem to install any software because the software installer doesn't think I'm the administrator. This has happened with 2 separate installers.

Eep?

Does anyone have any insight as to what's going on here?

Thanks in advance,

Patrick

Boot the machine from the OS X installation and up in the menu bar you will find an option to reset the passwords.
Following the instructions and all should be well after the reboot.

Same exact problem-Did you resolve it?
Dec 3, 2007 9:12AM PST

Moments ago, I just posted the exact problem you stated. I own a G5 i-Mac and after 2 years of no problems such as this, I tried to install an Epson printer and got that evil dialogue. I tried re-setting all the passwords several times but I can't get passed that message.

Did you ever resolve the problem? If so, would share the good news? Thanks. David.
