Admin Access Using Vista Business

Jul 13, 2009 2:46AM PDT

Hello all, I have a Lenovo T61 using Vista Business. I Am wanting to use my main account as the sole administrator. My question(s) are as follows:

1) Is this advisable?
2) I Am trying to install HP drivers and cannot in the main profile, even after clicking run as administrator, how to overcome?

I was, at one point, able to run and install programs from my main profile without any challenges. Somehow in my calls to help desks, this has become unavailable.

TIA for your input and assistance.

Bo

Never.

Until you or Microsoft solves the corrupt profile issue (google vista corrupt profile) it would be a very bad idea to have one and only one account that is admin capable.

Those that try this often learn a valuable lesson. How much they pay for this lesson varies widely.

Okay Robert, I have re-installed the Admin account. Happily.

How do I re-instate the same privileges to my base account so I do not have to switch between the two?

Thank you for your time and on-going help in these forums. Your knowledge is vast and helpful..

I suggest you try that question on the start, help box but from http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/74603287-0ee9-4470-9a4e-3d791f95f4c61033.mspx
"1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety, clicking User Accounts, and then clicking Manage Another Account. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
2. Click the account you want to change, and then click Change the account type.
3. Select the account type you want, and then click Change Account Type."

Now there are very few differences from the default admin account to the other admin capabilty account but let's just say there are no differences. BOTH get UAC notices and must follow the rules of permissions, ownerships and more.
