Question

Adjusting display colours for ASUS

by HappyHamster / December 4, 2017 6:15 AM PST

Hi,

I would like to know what are the options in order to adjust my display colors to get them more bright and with a higher contrast. I tried adjusting brightness, as well as calibrating display colors. It is maybe less visible with web pages and games, but you can really see the difference when watching videos on youtube - impossible to watch because everything is too pale.

I also tried adjusting my graphic card but there seem to be very few options too (I see only one brightness adjustment bar), so I don't know if I have to download any additional drivers or something.

System info: ASUS X540YA-XX082T, Windows 10 64-bit, AMD Radeon R5 Graphics, AMD Quad Core A8-7410 processor.

Thank you in advance.

Sadly the truth in many laptops.

This is why before I buy I hit reviews on CNET and Notebookcheck to check the display color scale and more. This way I am assured I get a great display when I can't check it out first hand in the store.

That out of the way you can try the color calibrator device like the Pantone Huey. I bought this for my son years ago and he liked it.

Still something can be done?

I saw a video on how to adjust colors with AMD Radeon with the same pc model, though it seems I don't have all the functions of the graphic card displayed in the video. Can the graphic card be upgraded? Because afterwards the guy in the video seemed to be satisfied with the result.

In a laptop? I'm going with no.

There are folk that will disagree and talk about models that had such but I looked at https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-VivoBook-X540YA/ and found no option for that.

But hey, my wife's new laptop is this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07661CYPD/

We went with the ASUS N705UD-EH76 VivoBook for many reasons. The reviews were kind and the 1050 GPU is well known.

It looks great here.

As to the missing controls, you have to ask ASUS and AMD.

That said, another nod to the Pantone HUEY and such calibrators.

I forgot a thing. Asus Splendid video settings.

In reply to: Thank you,

I wonder if you tried the four settings offered.

But I tried to find reviews on this one and the rating was very very low. That is, until I read https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=https://www.auchan.fr/asus-ordinateur-portable-x540ya-xx082t-noir/p-c977295&prev=search
it didn't make sense why.

At just 399 this is a discount or cheap thing. You need to see if you can return it and try again for units with better displays if calibration doesn't help along with Asus Splendid settings (if it has it.)
