Adept file manager problems

Nov 18, 2005 5:13AM PST

Installation :
Kubuntu Breezy 5.1.0
KDE 3.4

Started install of Libmagick++6-dev I left the computer during the install when I returned a file was running in the preconfigure screen.
The file was scrolling and would pause for a few seconds.
It was asking for a number coresponding to a greophical area. I am unable to input a number or to move the cursor to any location. The file will auto start scrolling and pausing on its own for how ever amount of time you allow it to do so.
In the preview changes area the file Libc6-I686 (Gnu c Library) exist with the status Broken ( upgradable) Action Break ( keep)
Removed libc6 this did not effect preconfigure file it continues to scroll

Cannot install or upgrade any other files as the script continues to scroll until a command to kill or another command is given.

Adept manager has error message commit is not complete because of broken file.

Tried recovery mode but no sucess

How do I get rid of this file that is not completing the preconfigure process.

Thanks
Ray

Problem Fixed
Nov 18, 2005 11:44AM PST

Bob
I got both Ubuntu and Kubuntu from Ubuntu free for the disk and shipping. The turnaround time was only two day As I am on k56 I could not have down loaded that soon.

To solve the problem I used Konsole and typed

Sudo apt=get updates this loaded about 13000+- files above what I already had downloaded.

Then I typed sudo dpkg --configure -a this brought up the problem program and allow me to insert the entries for the geographical area and the time zone.

This completed the install of the libc6 file and now I can again upgrade and install files from adept.

Hope you get installed soon I know we are going to need help in the future.

Thanks for the interest
Ray

That is, sleep. My thoughts were to use aptget but since I've never seen Ubuntu close up, I hesitated to write the word.

That box is not one in the main cluster but off in some outer space where we may be sending online backups to. We do this for a multi-layer system of file backups. Real backups are to DVDRW media and put in a safe place, but the convenience of nearly online copies is hard to resist.

Linux answers this need very well.

Cheers,

Bob
