Address book will not import...

by mandyrchtr / August 10, 2005 7:34 PM PDT

After getting 2 computers back from repairs...I used one and not the other prior to this...the fellow saved my Address book and I found it in C:\My Documents\Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values File.
Size is 1.70kb, 4096 bytes used.
My Outlook Express has an icon on my newer desktop that I now use...unsure if needed.
I am now using Windows 98 SE.
The address Book was on Windows 98.
I have Microsoft Excel 8.0
Microsoft Outlook 8.0 and IE 6.0. on the computer I am now using.
The file did not show in my documents until I sent the excel file to my documents.
When I go into outlook express and try to import my address book *WAB it does not show (along with word documents I have also) - only folders show up that I have.
I went to the documents folder and right clicked address book and sent it to desktop.
Again I went to Outlook Express, tools, address book, file ,import, file name same things still show in my documents and all that shows up in Desktop are...My Computer-My Documents-Network Neighborhood-My Briefcase.
I have more things than that on my desktop.
What am I not doing right?
Thank you, Mandy

What address book?
by glb613 / August 10, 2005 7:47 PM PDT

If you are trying to import your Outlook Express address book, it's .WAB file. If you created an address list using Excel, it will be in that format. You can't import an Excel file into Outlook Express. How did you save the address book?

That is the problem...the repair bloke did that himself...

In reply to: What address book?

and not told me where he saved it.It was only because I ran find files and folders that I located it.
It is my regular Outlook express address book that has all my contacts and email addresses in it!And as to be expected the details are separated into columns.
I have never used Excel idea how to!

search and type in .WAB and see what it finds. Do you have another copy saved elsewhere?

I do not have a copy - but I do still have it on the other computer...the kids use it now.

Then export the copy you have
by glb613 / August 10, 2005 9:55 PM PDT

Open Outlook Express, go to tools then address book. Click on file, export then address book(WAB). Pick the destination, a floppy or USB portable drive will work, give it a name then save. Once the export/save is complete, import it on the other computer. Follow the same instruction except choose import instead of export. Your address book should be on the other computer.

I'd suggest you save a copy of this somewhere other than the hard drive. Otherwise if you have a computer failure, it will be lost.

All you should have to do is...
by Edward ODaniel / August 11, 2005 6:26 AM PDT

open OE then click the File Menu then click on IMPORT then select OTHER ADDRESS BOOK then select the "Text File (Comma Seperated Values)" choice then browse to the file you mentioned and import it.

the fellow saved my Address book and I found it in C:\My Documents\Microsoft Excel Comma Separated Values File.
