Address Book Syncing

Aug 4, 2009 1:07AM PDT

Hi,

I am trying to isync my nokia e71 with my mac. I think I may have done some weird syncing thing on my phone resulting in many numbers disappearing from it so I want all the entries on mac address book to be updated. This should solve all the problems as on mac address book they're fine.

Without manual updated all 500+ of them, do you know of a speedy way of doing this?

Thanks

Hayden

How I solved this.

I learned a long time ago that the sure way to lose information is to keep it in one place or one software. Now that I have my stuff in 2 or more places when one place vanishes I just go get it from the next. Or if it's some application I restore it from my backup.

This lesson appears to be one that can't be taught but almost always is learned by losing the content once, twice or many times.

I haven't lost any data this particular time. The problem is that something updated my phone contacts (with numbers deleted). iSync regards these as being the newer information and wants to overwrite address book hence I would lose my numbers. I'm trying to update all my address book contacts so that they can easily go back onto my phone.

Still reads like data loss.

If you can't copy from phone to computer or computer to phone with any reliability then it's the same old problem. No backup?

I was hoping for something a little more helpful

Is there an automator workflow that may be able to help?

i.e. it would edit a contact, add a letter, stop editing, edit again and then delete the letter. It would then move on to the next record. The result being an updated contact.

Can this be done?

Try this,

below is a link to an automator workflow that will allow you to add something to each of your contact entries.
As I understand it, this is what you are looking for.

Take a look Here, about halfway down the page

let us know if it works for you

Thanks in advance

Take that character out and

hit the Compile button.

Then hit the RUN button.

That's the theory but I cannot make it do what you want either.

After Tell Application "Address Book" put Activate

Then you will see what it is supposed to do.

Still messing with it

Thanks for the efforts

I'm starting to get it. I did what you suggested and did get a step closer. Wondering if it would be feasible to use an address book I never really use to add the character.

How would I then delete again?

Speak soon

Not sure,

I am not the AppleScript guru.

Hopefully, one will pass by shortly.

I will still be looking at this problem as it is now annoying me

a very simple solution

Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best. Everything was already fine on the mac, it was just the phone that was messed up. So all I did was reset the phone.

I feel a little silly now.

Anyway thank you very much for your help, much appreciated
