Adding Windows 7 and Microsoft Office to Vista?

Nov 15, 2009 1:54PM PST

I have a one year old HP desktop running Vista Home Premium, which was pre-installed on my desktop by HP..
I have since purchased DVDs of both Microsoft Office 2007 FULL version and Windows 7 UPGRADE version.
I have not yet installed either of them.
Is there a preferred (or logical) sequence for installing them??
Should I install Windows 7 UPGRADE first and then Microsoft Office??
Or should I install Microsoft Office first and then Windows 7??
Abd why?
Thank you.

I don't think it makes much difference

Whether you install one before the other, probably doesn't make much difference, but logic tells me that, if you are going to upgrade to Windows 7, then do that first before installing any more software.

The only reason you wouldn't do that is if you were going to wait for some time before installing Win 7, but wanted to use Office 2007 now.

Agree with Mark

I agree with Mark, it really shouldn't make any big difference, but if it were me, I'd do Win7 first. Just because that's going to take considerably longer, and if something should go horribly wrong, at least you didn't also spend time installing Office.

That's not to say it's likely anything will go wrong, just if we're speaking in terms of worst case scenarios, if something goes wrong with the Win7 upgrade, you can at least save yourself a little time not installing Office twice.

Hello Ridger,

It doesn't really matter, but it is likely more efficient for you to install your new Windows 7 first. I am not sure if you are planning on doing a simple upgrade or a custom install- this will impact your back up of programs and transferring these back to your computer so it could be easier just to install Office to your new cleaned up OS. Either way, these instructions will be a helpful guide through the installation process: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-vista-to-windows-7.

Cheers,
